The families of teenagers unaccounted for after a devastating inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's alpine town are enduring an excruciating period of uncertainty for answers and pleading for any details about their loved ones online.

The blaze devastated the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Circulated footage depict the roof structure catching alight as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.

Officials have warned that it could take an extended period to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another scores more.
